Art Box

A window for contemporary art and community.

ART BOX is an ongoing programme of temporary art installations presented from the street-facing window of Michelle Williams Law in the heart of Martinborough.

Visible day and night, the window becomes a place of curiosity, conversation and discovery. Rather than using the space for advertising, it is offered to artists, makers, designers and creative thinkers as a platform for ideas, experimentation and expression.

Presented by Michelle Williams Law and curated by Crystal Chain Gang, ART BOX reflects a shared belief that creativity should be part of everyday life and accessible to everyone.

A Gift to the Street

Every community benefits from places that encourage people to pause, reflect and connect.

ART BOX is a simple idea: a window offered to artists.

Located within one of Martinborough's historic buildings, the project transforms a familiar streetscape into a living exhibition space. Encountered unexpectedly on a walk through town, each installation invites a moment of wonder, reflection or conversation.

No tickets. No opening hours. No barriers.

Just creativity, freely shared.

The Programme

ART BOX presents a rolling programme of installations by artists, makers, designers, writers, architects, landscape designers and creative practitioners from across Aotearoa.

Alongside established artists, the programme will create opportunities for emerging voices, collaborative projects and community participation.

Each installation is temporary.

Each encounter is unique.

Community

ART BOX is designed to grow alongside the community.

Future initiatives may include artist talks, opening gatherings, school projects, collaborations with local festivals and partnerships with organisations that share a commitment to culture, creativity and place.

A Quiet Legacy

ART BOX is not a gallery.

It is not a retail space.

It is not an advertising platform.

It is a window offered to artists.

A gift to the street.

A place where creativity is encountered unexpectedly.
